Fitting a new ceiling light is a very common job. It would typically be covered by our minimum charge of £25. However it is not unknown to find defects on the lighting circuit that you were unaware of. Some faults that have been found include a lack of continuity of the earth wire and the earth wire being used as a live switch wire in 2 way switching. Both of these problems will have to be rectified before the new fitting can be fitted. Another common problem is when the current fitting is not located at a suitable fixing point in the ceiling. In this case it may require carpet and floor boards lifting in the room above so a suitable fixing point can be provided, all of which will add to the cost of the job.
