Replacing your old fuse box with a modern
split load consumer unit with full RCD protection
normally costs in the region of £350. As the new
consumer unit will be connected to all the circuits
for your home all the existing wiring has to be fault
free. This is often not the case and some time can
be spent tracking and fixing faults which can push
the price up. It is not an option to replace the
fuse box and not fix existing faults, as these can
cause tripping of the new circuit breakers and often
the reason for changing the old fuse box in the first
place is to increase the safety of your wiring so it
would serve little point to leave faults.
